ESET Anti Virus
Important Notice – ESET Anti Virus v4 is End of Life in December 2018
If you are running ESET Anti Virus version 4, this reaches End of Life in December 2018. This will mean that from this date you will be unable to receive database updates. Whilst ESET version 5 does not become end of life until December 2020, it does not contain some of the essential features that are found in version 6 and 7. We would therefore strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version.
Regularly updating your ESET business products is the best way to ensure the maximum level of security on your computer. Updating the virus database and updating program components are important parts of maintaining complete protection against malicious code.
How do I tell which version I am running?
What does the latest version of ESET anti virus give me?:
- Anti-Phishing protection is now built-in into the latest version, which restricts access to malicious websites that impersonate legitimate ones. This is becoming more and more important as these links are often used as a way for Ransomware (and other malware) to break in to your system.
- There is a new fresh interface with simple indicators to tell you and your colleagues that all is well (or not as the case may be). And also now compatible with touch screen devices too!
- A brand new agent installed on each computer that allows DCS to roll out policies, exclusions and future new versions of ESET with no involvement from you, the user; thus less disruption to your day.
- It uses less resources on your computer than previous versions of ESET and therefore leaving those freed up resources available for your other applications.
- Because the central management console on the server is greatly improved, it gives you as the customer and us, DCS, very clear visibility of the status of your anti-virus health for your whole organisation (for example, are there any machines that have viruses? Are their virus definitions out of date? Is it an unsupported version of Windows? Has one of your computers not contacted the server for a while to check in?). A virus or any other threat will always attack the weak spots of your network and if we take these weak spots away with tools such as this, the risk of that virus getting in, is significantly reduced.
- Previous versions of ESET are not compatible with Windows 10 and inevitably any new computer you purchase now will come with Windows 10.
As part of your DCS annual renewal for ESET anti-virus, you get protection for the latest known virus threats downloaded straight to your computer all year round, but you’re also getting access to download and install the latest ESET software versions. DCS will charge when a major version upgrade requires a full software re-installation, though we always implement in-version releases for you without charge.
